How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    The Opportunity

Our client is a growing M&E contractor based in Liverpool and they are looking for a Mechanical Estimator to join their team in what is described as a pivotal appointment for the business. This is not a seat-keeping role – the successful candidate will have a real impact on how the commercial function develops, and there are genuine opportunities to progress for the right person.

The business is at an interesting stage. They have secured a significant pipeline of work, are actively strengthening their team, and operate with a clarity of purpose around what they are building. For an estimator looking for a role with scope beyond the day-to-day, this is worth a serious look.

    About the Business

Our client is a Liverpool-based M&E contractor delivering mechanical and electrical design and installation services across the North West. Working through directly employed, multi-skilled teams and specialist suppliers, they operate across healthcare, education, commercial, residential, hotel and leisure, retail and custodial sectors.

The business has built a strong track record in decarbonisation and energy efficiency, recently securing in excess of £4 million in contracts including a major project with a prominent North West university. Their portfolio includes full design and build packages for NHS medical centres, large-scale auditoriums and university buildings – and their pipeline continues to grow. They have a genuine can-do approach, a select and loyal client base, and a leadership team with a clear view of where the business is going.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    *

Preparing mechanical estimates and tender submissions from drawings and specifications

    *

Carrying out take-offs and producing accurate cost plans across a range of project types

    *

Engaging with the supply chain to obtain competitive subcontractor and supplier pricing

    *

Identifying commercial risks and value engineering opportunities within bids

    *

Attending tender clarification and review meetings

    *

Working closely with the design and delivery teams to ensure bids are technically sound

    *

Contributing to the development of the pre-construction function as the business grows

    What We’re Looking For

    *

Proven experience in mechanical estimating within an M&E contracting environment

    *

Confident reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, specifications and tender documentation

    *

Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Excel

    *

Commercially aware, with a methodical and accurate approach to pricing

    *

Motivated by the opportunity to grow within a business, not just fulfil a function

    *

Relevant mechanical or building services background or qualification

    What’s on Offer

    *

Salary of £55,000 – £65,000 depending on experience

    *

    Company benefits package

    *

A genuinely pivotal role within a growing business

    *

Clear and realistic opportunities to progress for the right candidate
