How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    WORKSHOP ENGINEER

    Location: Barking

    Salary: £38,000 - £40,000 + Overtime + Benefits

    Job Description

    An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Workshop Engineer to join a busy and growing engineering team based in Barking.

    This role would suit somebody with a strong background within plant hire, heavy plant, construction equipment, powered access, forklifts or mechanical engineering environments looking for a stable, long-term position with strong overtime opportunities and progression.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on a wide range of plant and hire equipment within a workshop environment.

    Responsibilities

    Carrying out servicing, maintenance and repairs on plant and hire equipment
    Diagnosing faults across mechanical, hydraulic and basic electrical systems
    Completing planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
    Conducting inspections and pre-delivery inspections (PDIs)
    Attending to breakdown repairs and ensuring equipment is returned to service efficiently
    Preparing equipment ready for hire
    Completing all service paperwork and workshop documentation accurately
    Maintaining high workshop and health & safety standards
    Liaising with parts departments and workshop management teams regarding repairs and ongoing work

    Requirements

    Previous experience within plant hire, heavy plant or construction equipment industries
    Strong mechanical fault-finding ability
    Knowledge of hydraulic systems
    Basic electrical diagnostic experience advantageous
    Ability to work independently and within a team environment
    Strong attitude towards health & safety
    Full UK Driving Licence preferred
    Relevant engineering qualifications advantageous (NVQ, City & Guilds, Plant Maintenance etc.)
