How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About the company:

Our client is a privately owned, award-winning environmental contractor and consultancy that has over 25 years of proven experience in providing specialist advice and undertaking quality site investigations and remediation projects. Operating across the UK with regional offices in the South East and the Midlands, our client provides services including remediation, site investigation and risk assessment to various petrochemical companies, retailers, government departments, and land and property owners.

This contractor has an excellent staff retention level which has been gained by constantly concentrating on improving standards. They are renowned for looking after their staff, providing them with strong career progression opportunities through their extensive commitment to training and development and with their close management team; they are able to offer a strong family feel to the business ensuring you are a name rather than just a number.

    About the opportunity:

Due to company expansion, my client is recruiting permanently for an Environmental Technician. You will be site-based and will be responsible for assisting with environmental investigations, remediation works, sampling, monitoring, and compliance activities to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with UK environmental regulations. As an Environmental Technician, you will play a key role in supporting site managers, engineers, and remediation specialists during all stages of remediation projects, from initial site investigation through to validation and site closure.

General duties will include the following:

    * Assisting with contaminated land investigations and remediation activities on-site.

    * Collecting soil, groundwater, surface water, and gas samples in accordance with industry standards and project specifications.

    * Supporting the installation and monitoring of groundwater wells, gas monitoring points, and remediation systems.

    * Conducting environmental monitoring, including groundwater level readings, gas monitoring, and field testing.

    * Maintaining accurate site records, sampling logs, and health & safety documentation.

    * Assisting with remediation techniques such as soil treatment, excavation supervision, pump-and-treat systems, bioremediation, or vapour extraction systems.

    * Ensuring compliance with UK environmental legislation, health & safety standards, and company procedures.

    * Operating and maintaining environmental monitoring equipment and field instruments.

    * Supporting waste classification, materials management, and disposal processes.

    * Liaising with subcontractors, laboratory providers, and site personnel as required.

    About the requirements:

For this entry-level opportunity, you will be degree-qualified in a related discipline (civil engineering, environmental science, or geology).

Additionally, you will hold a good understanding of contaminated land and remediation principles, be competent in data recording and report preparation and whilst based initially at Rowley Regis, the role will involve travel between sites throughout the UK, so you must hold a full UK driving license and be willing to travel/work away from home when required.

    About the rewards/benefits:

For this permanent opportunity, my client is looking to offer a salary between £25,000 - £30,000 per annum, however specific remuneration will depend on experience and suitability. Furthermore, there will be a generous package offered in addition to other benefits associated with a large successful company, plus, as this is a thriving business, excellent career development opportunities are available.
