How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Temperate Rainforest Recovery Officer
    Dulverton, Somerset

    About Us

Exmoor National Park is a unique and beautiful part of the country. Our vision is that Exmoor remains a beautiful landscape, leading the response to climate change and nature recovery, a welcoming place for all, as well as a great place to live, work and do business.

Exmoor’s woodland is a mix of deeply incised wooded valleys, wild ancient coastal woodlands, verdant temperate rainforest, designed picturesque, wooded landscapes, rare and veteran trees, old estate woodlands and more recent productive conifer plantations; all contribute to a place of exceptional arboreal quality.

We want to ensure our existing trees and woodlands continue to do this but provide a deeper and wider range of benefits through increased areas under appropriate management, intervention and protection and that people connect with trees, woods and forests in a meaningful way.

We are now looking for a Temperate Rainforest Recovery Officer to join us on a full-time basis for a three year fixed-term contract.

    The Benefits

    - Salary of £32,597 - £36,363 per annum
    - Generous annual leave plus bank holidays
    - Local Government Pension Scheme
    - Paid sickness, parental and compassionate leave, plus time off for dependants
    - Time off to attend medical appointments
    - Access to trained Mental Health First Aiders and a 24/7 confidential helpline

You’ll have the chance to support the recovery and long-term management of Exmoor’s stunning landscapes, contributing to nature-rich, resilient woodlands in one of the country’s most distinctive and beautiful places.

What’s more, you’ll have access to a strong package designed to support your wellbeing and the opportunity to build your experience in a role that combines purpose, variety and impact.

So, if you’re looking for a role where your knowledge can help turn ambition into practical action for nature, read on and apply today.

    The Role

As a Temperate Rainforest Recovery Officer, you will support the recovery and long-term management of Exmoor’s woodland landscapes, helping to deliver nature-rich, resilient woodlands.

You will assist in managing our woodland estate, supporting the development of long-term Woodland Plans, Plans of Operation and Environmental Land Management schemes.

Working across a range of woodland projects, you will help deliver temperate rainforest creation, woodland expansion, nature recovery initiatives and sustainable forestry activities, while supporting monitoring, surveys and contract management across the estate.

    Additionally, you will:

    - Assist with woodland monitoring, surveys and research projects
    - Support species recovery, habitat management and tree nursery development projects
    - Work with external partners to deliver woodland creation and nature recovery initiatives
    - Support private landowners with woodland planning and sustainable forestry advice
    - Contribute to the development of the Exmoor Woodland Futures platform
    - Update woodland webpages and promote woodland projects through social media
    - Assist with administration, reporting, research and Freedom of Information requests

To be considered as a Temperate Rainforest Recovery Officer, you will need:

    - Experience working within forestry, landscape conservation or countryside management
    - Strong project management skills
    - Experience of working with contractors
