How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    A leading specialist fire consultancy is seeking an experienced Principal Fire Engineer to join their expanding the North West Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically accomplished Principal Fire Engineer to work on complex high-rise, residential, commercial and mixed-use developments across the UK.

    The successful Principal Fire Engineer will join an established team delivering fire strategy, fire engineering and building safety consultancy services to major developers, housing providers and design teams. This Principal Fire Engineer role offers clear progression, project leadership responsibility and hybrid working flexibility.

    The Principal Fire Engineer's Role

    The appointed Principal Fire Engineer will lead complex fire engineering commissions across a wide range of sectors, supporting clients through planning, design and construction stages.

    The Principal Fire Engineer will take responsibility for:

    Producing and reviewing fire strategies
    Advising on Building Regulations and Building Safety Act compliance
    Supporting Gateway submissions for high-risk buildings
    Leading client and multidisciplinary design meetings
    Mentoring Graduate and Senior Fire Engineers
    Reviewing smoke control and evacuation strategies
    Supporting external wall and façade fire safety mattersThe Principal Fire Engineer will also contribute towards business development activities and support the continued growth of the consultancy's fire engineering division.

    The Principal Fire Engineer

    The successful Principal Fire Engineer should ideally have:

    Degree in Fire Engineering or related discipline
    Extensive consultancy experience within fire engineering
    Strong understanding of UK fire legislation and Approved Document B
    Experience leading complex projects independently
    Excellent technical report writing ability
    Chartered status or working towards chartership desirable
