How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Job Title: Head of Fire Safety – UK&I

    Location: Nationwide

    Salary: £90,000

    Sector: Facilities Management

I am working with a market leading Facilities Management provider to find a Head of Fire Safety for the UK and Ireland. We need a senior fire safety leader to take ownership of fire strategy, governance, and assurance across a complex, multi-site portfolio. This is a critical leadership role responsible for shaping a compliant, resilient, and future-ready fire safety framework across diverse and high-risk environments.

Acting as the organisation’s designated “Competent Person” under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, you will provide authoritative technical leadership and assurance that all fire safety legislative and regulatory requirements are met.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead the development and implementation of the UK&I fire safety strategy and long-term roadmap
    • Establish and maintain a robust fire safety governance and assurance framework
    • Define and embed fire safety standards, policies, and operational guidance across all business segments
    • Set and oversee competency frameworks for fire safety roles, ensuring capability and resource effectiveness
    • Provide expert technical support across high-risk and regulated environments
    • Deliver assurance through audits, compliance controls, and corrective action programmes
    • Act as the senior escalation point for fire safety technical matters
    • Support business-critical activity including mobilisations, bids, and operational transitions
    • Build and maintain strategic relationships with regulators, insurers, and industry bodies
    • Champion a zero-harm culture and promote fire safety best practice across the organisation

    About You

You will be an experienced fire safety professional operating at a senior level within complex, multi-site environments. You will bring a strategic mindset combined with strong technical authority and the ability to influence at executive level. Extra bonus points if you have actually worked in the Fire & Rescue Services.

    Qualifications, Experience & Skills

    • Membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) (minimum Member grade)
    • Recognised fire safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management, NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent Level 4 RQF fire risk assessment qualification)
    • Proven experience leading fire safety strategy, governance, and assurance frameworks
    • Strong working knowledge of UK and Irish fire legislation, building regulations, and fire safety systems
    • Experience operating as, or supporting, a “Competent Person” for fire safety
    • Ability to translate complex technical and legislative requirements into practical operational guidance
    • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence across all levels
    • Experience working with regulators, insurers, and external bodies
    • Demonstrated ability to deliver assurance through reporting, audit, and compliance frameworks

This is an opportunity to shape fire safety at scale, influencing strategy, driving compliance, and embedding best-in-class standards across a nationally significant portfolio.
