How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Vertical Borer

    📍 Sheffield
    💷 Excellent Rates + Overtime + 4 Day Week

    Salary

    Days: £19.00 – £21.00 per hour DOE
    Nights: £23.70 – £25.70 per hour DOE

    Plenty of overtime available.

    For developing machinists with relevant setup/editing experience, training may be available, with starting rates from:

    * Days: £17.00 per hour

    * Nights: £21.70 per hour

    The Role

    We are currently recruiting for an experienced Vertical Borer to join a well-established heavy engineering company based in Sheffield.

    This is a great opportunity for a skilled machinist with experience on vertical boring machines, VTLs or large turning machinery to join a busy precision engineering environment. You will be machining large components to tight tolerances, working from engineering drawings and carrying out self-inspection using precision measuring equipment.

    The role will involve working on Webster Bennett vertical borers, machining large castings, forgings and fabrications using materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, copper and titanium.

    What We’re Looking For

    * Experience as a Vertical Borer, VTL Machinist or large turning machinist

    * Ability to set and operate vertical boring machines

    * Experience machining large/heavy engineering components

    * Ability to read and work from engineering drawings

    * Confident using measuring equipment and working to tight tolerances

    Experience with Webster Bennett machines or controls such as Fagor, Fanuc or Siemens would be highly desirable.
