How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    This is a short-term contract opportunity for an experienced passive fire surveyor to carry out condition-based and observational fire stopping and compartmentation surveys at a university in Birmingham. The contract is expected to run for one to two weeks, with a start date of 1st June, ahead of installation works commencing the following week.

    The Role

    As Passive Fire Surveyor, you will carry out condition-based and observational surveys of fire stopping and compartmentation across the site. The primary purpose of the surveys is to assess the current condition of passive fire protection installations and identify any issues that could present challenges to the installing contractors when carrying out remedial or new installation works.

    This is a surveying-only role requiring a professional, methodical approach and the ability to produce clear findings that will directly inform the works programme.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Carry out condition-based and observational surveys of fire stopping and compartmentation across the site

    * Identify defects, non-compliance and potential issues that could impact the installing contractors

    * Provide clear general guidance on findings to support the works planning process

    * Record survey findings accurately, including photographic evidence where required

    * Liaise professionally with site contacts and the client team throughout the survey

    * Produce clear, concise survey outputs to inform the remedial works programme

    What We're Looking For

    * Proven experience carrying out passive fire surveys with a focus on fire stopping and compartmentation

    * Strong knowledge of fire stopping systems including batt and mastic, penetration seals, cavity barriers and compartmentation lines

    * Understanding of FIRAS, BM TRADA or IFC standards and compliance requirements

    * Experience identifying installation issues and producing condition-based survey reports

    * Ability to work independently and efficiently across a live site environment

    * CSCS Card — desirable

    What's On Offer

    * Competitive day rate (DOE)

    * One to two week contract

    * Start date 1st June

    * Straightforward surveying role with no installation works required
