How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Commercial Lead

Infrastructure Programme | Bury St Edmunds

We’re supporting the appointment of a Commercial Lead to join a major infrastructure programme in the Bury St Edmunds area, currently valued at circa £269m across 4-5 live packages, with the wider programme expected to grow to around £3bn over the next 12-18 months.

This is a senior leadership role within a growing programme environment, offering the opportunity to take ownership of a complex commercial function as the scale and delivery requirements continue to evolve.

    The Role

As Commercial Lead, you’ll provide commercial leadership across the project, ensuring effective management of contracts, commercial controls and package delivery across multiple workstreams.

Initially overseeing 4-5 packages, you’ll also line manage a team of 6-8 Quantity Surveyors, supporting performance, consistency and commercial best practice across the programme.

The role will require regular site presence in the Bury St Edmunds area and would suit someone comfortable operating closely with delivery teams and stakeholders in a live infrastructure environment.

    Responsibilities

    • Providing commercial leadership across a major infrastructure programme
    • Managing and coordinating multiple concurrent work packages
    • Leading commercial governance, reporting and contract administration activities
    • Managing NEC contracts and ensuring commercial compliance across delivery teams
    • Supporting programme growth and helping shape commercial strategy as the project scales
    • Line managing and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors
    • Building strong relationships with project stakeholders, contractors and delivery partners
    • Supporting risk management, forecasting and cost control activities
    • Maintaining a collaborative presence across project and site teams

    What We’re Looking For

    • Strong infrastructure project experience within major programmes
    • Proven NEC contract experience is essential
    • Previous experience leading commercial teams within complex environments
    • Ability to manage multiple packages and stakeholders simultaneously
    • Strong leadership and communication skills
    • Utilities or energy sector experience would be advantageous, though not essential
    • Degree qualified or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
    • Professional membership (RICS or similar) preferred

    The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join a programme at a significant stage of growth, with clear long-term investment and increasing project complexity over the coming years.

The role would suit someone who enjoys leading teams, driving commercial performance and working within large-scale infrastructure delivery environments where there is genuine scope to influence how projects are delivered.
