How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Hours of work: 36hrs per week, alternating shifts (mornings and afternoons)

    Who we are

    At Pullman Rail, we are proud of our heritage as a specialist rail engineering company delivering high-quality rolling stock maintenance, overhaul and refurbishment solutions across the UK rail industry.

    We are now looking for an experienced Inspector to join our Assurance team. This is a key role responsible for ensuring rolling stock components, systems and assemblies meet the highest safety, quality and compliance standards throughout the overhaul process.

    Applicants must have a robust mechanical engineering or inspection background, ideally within rolling stock, heavy engineering or a similar industrial environment. Candidates should possess a good understanding of engineering standards, quality assurance processes and defect identification, with the ability to interpret technical documentation and carry out detailed inspections. Please note that only applicants with a mechanical or inspection background will be considered for this position.


    About the role

    As an Inspector, you will carry out inspections and assurance activities across mechanical, wheelset and component workstreams. You will support the safe return to service of rolling stock assets by identifying defects, verifying compliance with engineering standards, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the business.

    You will also provide technical guidance to production teams and support wider assurance activities including audits, investigations and process reviews.


    Key responsibilities

    • Conduct spot-check inspections throughout production and overhaul activities
    • Inspect rolling stock components, assemblies and completed work to ensure compliance with technical specifications and company standards
    • Carry out dimensional checks, alignments and engineering measurements
    • Verify maintenance, overhaul and inspection documentation is accurately completed
    • Produce detailed inspection and non-conformance reports
    • Support investigations, audits and corrective actions
    • Provide technical guidance to production and maintenance teams
    • Promote and uphold safe systems of work and quality standards at all times
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the Assurance function



    About you

    We are looking for someone who has:

    • A completed apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Traction & Rolling Stock or a relevant engineering discipline
    • Experience within rolling stock, rail maintenance or heavy engineering environments
    • A good understanding of quality assurance and inspection processes
    • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and maintenance manuals
    • Knowledge of wheelsets, bogies and rolling stock component inspection methods
    • Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers and gauges
    • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent communication and reporting abilities
    • A commitment to safety, quality and professional standards


    Desirable qualifications:

    • Magnetic Particle Inspection Level 2
    • UAT Inspection Level 1
