How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Pay Rate: £38.00 per hour (Umbrella)

    Position Type: Full-Time, Locum

    Start Date: ASAP

Why Choose Locum Work in Suffolk?

Locum social work provides a unique pathway to fast-track your professional development while maintaining control over your career. Joining Suffolk County Council as a locum professional offers:

    *

Flexibility & Balance: Manage your contract commitments while enjoying a hybrid working model that blends remote work with office collaboration.

    *

Diverse Professional Experience: Broaden your clinical and practical skillset by adapting to new team dynamics and diverse casework.

    *

Highly Competitive Earnings: Command an excellent premium rate of £38.00 per hour while delivering vital support to vulnerable youth.

The Role: Making a Lasting Impact

Working within the Children in Care team is one of the most rewarding paths in social work. You will be the stable anchor for children and young people looked after by the local authority, ensuring they are safe, supported, and given every opportunity to thrive.

    Key Responsibilities

    *

Child-Centric Practice: Complete meaningful direct work with children to understand their wishes, feelings, and lived experiences, incorporating life story work to help them understand their journeys.

    *

Care Planning & Proceedings: Develop, implement, and review comprehensive care plans while confidently managing care proceedings and representing the authority in court.

    *

Multi-Agency Collaboration: Partner closely with foster carers, residential teams, schools, health providers, and legal professionals to build a robust support network around each child.

    *

High-Quality Documentation: Maintain accurate records and write analytical, high-standard reports for court and statutory reviews.

    Role Requirements

    *

    Active Social Work England registration.

    *

Significant post-qualifying experience within a Children in Care, Looked After Children (LAC), or equivalent frontline team.

    *

Driving License & Vehicle: As Suffolk features beautiful but highly rural locations, significant travel is required to visit children in their placements. A full driving license and access to a vehicle are essential.

    *

Hybrid Commitment: Ability to work full-time, with an expectation to spend 3 days per week based in the Bury St Edmunds office
