How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Principal Mechanical Engineer (Engineering and Design)

    Due to a continued increase in engineering and design workload in the water sector to support AMP 8 for multiple clients including United Utilities, Severn Trent, Thames Water, Southern Water, Northumbrian Water and Yorkshire Water.
    Role location is the Manchester office.

    Key Responsibilities ·
    • To ensure compliance with Company & Client Policy with respect to water sector requirements.
    • To complete specific design tasks as delegated by the Project Discipline Engineer or Engineering Manager as appropriate.
    • To ensure work packs are delivered in timely and cost effective manner and in line with Company & Clients Project requirements and applicable Company & Client Codes and Standards. Where task forces are mobilised the team members are to be selected through the SQEP process and be familiar in the appropriate field of work.
    • To ensure well maintained Quality Assurance, auditable records, and technical files in line with CDM requirements
    • To ensure smooth and efficient liaison with Other Associated Partners and disciplines as required
    Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
    • A Principal Mechanical Engineer - Water is an engineer with specific knowledge and experience within their specialist field and discipline. (i.e.SQEP’d–Suitably Qualified Experienced Person).
    • A Principal Mechanical Engineer - Water is capable of carrying out Lead Mechanical Engineers roles on a project or group of projects.
    • Typically a minimum of 12 years’ experience in their discipline or a closely related one.
    • Proficiency in the delivery of engineering design across a number of work categories

    • Experience with the following mechanical engineering and design deliverables and activities:
    o Process Flow Diagrams
    o Plant Layout
    o Equipment Specifications and Datasheets
    o Pumping system calculations
    o Proficiency in the delivery of engineering design across a number of work categories.
    • Experience in one or more of the following specialist mechanical engineering fields:
    o Water treatment
    o Waste water treatment
    o Biosolids/sludge treatment
    o Pumping systems
    o Chemical storage and dosing
    o Asset condition surveys and reports

    In summary

    Applicants must have at least 10 years’ experience of mechanical engineering in major water utility upgrades. Including leakage reduction, supply interruptions etc.
