How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Senior Project Engineer (Track Design, Signalling and OCS)

We're working with a major client delivering Britain's high-speed rail infrastructure programme, and we're recruiting a Senior Project Engineer to provide technical support and coordination on Track Design delivery.
This is a senior technical role supporting the Lead Project Engineer in ensuring that track systems and layouts are designed, built and handed over to operations safely and on specification. You'll work at the heart of railway systems integration, managing the technical coordination between track design and other critical systems like signalling and power.

You'll combine deep design experience of track systems and layouts with the ability to work across complex interfaces. You'll support the coordination of assurance activities, manage configuration and information flow, and translate complex design challenges into clear engineering solutions. Your work ensures track systems meet all regulatory, operational and integration requirements.

    What You'll Be Doing

Support the coordination of technical assurance of track design, systems and layouts during design, construction and commissioning against client requirements and standards
Support the Lead Project Engineer in discharging NEC Supervisor and Principal Designer Representative duties under CDM 2015
Coordinate the acceptance of track design, construction and commissioning to ensure compliance with technical, sponsor and regulatory requirements before handover to operations
Manage technical coordination and integration between track design contractors and other interfacing systems like signalling and OCS
Provide technical guidance on track layout and design solutions, promoting best practice engineering techniques that drive consistency and efficiency
Work with technical specialists to develop cost-balanced mitigation strategies on track design and layout issues
Manage interface tools and processes to ensure track systems integrate effectively with neighbouring contracts and systems
Support the management and communication of engineering issues and changes affecting track design and layout
Oversee identification and communication of technical risks and assumptions across track design activities
Support internal and external reporting on technical progress and risk management for track systems
    What We're Looking For

You're a Design Manager or senior engineer with substantial hands-on experience of track systems and layouts, typically at £100m scale projects. You have direct design and engineering experience with railway track infrastructure and understand how track layout and systems are designed, specified and built.

You understand how track systems interface with signalling and power systems and have managed the coordination between these disciplines. You understand CDM 2015 and have supported or undertaken Principal Designer and Designer duties on complex projects. You've worked with NEC contracts and understand supervision responsibilities. You've managed competing project and engineering demands with cost and schedule implications. You're comfortable with digital engineering tools and design management systems.

You can identify technical risks in track design quickly and communicate them clearly to contractors and internal stakeholders. You're pragmatic about balancing design rigour with delivery timescales. You understand what it takes to deliver track systems safely and integrate them with other railway systems
