How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Lead Mechanical Engineer

    Working Location: Manchester

    Contract Type: Contract (June Start)

    Position Summary

    We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering design team within the oil & gas industry. The successful candidate will lead mechanical engineering activities across conceptual, FEED, detailed engineering, and project execution phases for upstream, midstream, and downstream facilities. This role requires strong technical leadership, project coordination skills, and experience delivering high-quality engineering solutions in compliance with industry standards and client requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    - Lead and manage mechanical engineering activities for oil & gas design projects from concept through execution.

    - Provide technical leadership and oversight to a multidisciplinary engineering team.

    - Develop and review mechanical engineering deliverables including:

    - Equipment specifications and datasheets

    - Material requisitions

    - Mechanical calculations and analysis

    - Technical bid evaluations

    - Design reports and engineering studies

    - Oversee design and selection of static and rotating equipment such as:

    - Pressure vessels

    - Heat exchangers

    - Storage tanks

    - Pumps

    - Compressors

    - Piping systems and associated mechanical components

    - Ensure compliance with applicable industry codes, standards, and regulations (ASME, API, ANSI, ISO, NACE, etc.).

    - Coordinate with process, piping, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and project teams to ensure design integration.

    - Participate in design reviews, HAZOP studies, constructability reviews, and risk assessments.

    - Support procurement activities including vendor document review, technical clarifications, and inspection requirements.

    - Monitor project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation for mechanical engineering activities.

    - Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and performance support to junior and mid-level engineers.

    - Interface directly with clients, contractors, and vendors on technical and project matters.

    - Support site activities including commissioning, troubleshooting, and field engineering when required.

    Requirements

    Required Qualifications

    - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

    - Minimum 10-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering within the oil & gas industry.

    - Minimum 5 years in a lead or supervisory engineering role.

    - Strong experience in engineering design consultancy or EPC environments.

    - Proficiency with engineering software and tools relevant to mechanical design and analysis.

    - Strong understanding of international design codes and standards including ASME, API, ASTM, and ISO.

    - Demonstrated experience with oil & gas facility design projects.

    - Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.

    - Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in fast-paced environments.

    Preferred Qualifications

    - Professional Engineer (PE) registration or equivalent professional certification.

    - Experience with offshore and/or onshore facilities.

    - Experience with FEED and detailed engineering projects.

    - Familiarity with international client standards and project execution practices.
