How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

TeacherActive is currently recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic SEMH Learning Support Assistant to work within a trusted, welcoming primary school based in Witham.

As a SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and pastoral teams to support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs in their learning and development. This includes providing one-to-one and small group support, delivering tailored interventions, and helping to create a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment.

A sports background is highly desirable, as many pupils respond well to active engagement and positive role models, although this is not essential.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Support teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons for SEMH pupils
    • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with additional emotional and behavioural needs
    • Build positive relationships with students and act as a strong role model
    • Help maintain a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
    • Support behaviour management strategies and promote positive behaviour
    • Assist with the preparation and adaptation of learning materials and resources for individual needs
    • Encourage student engagement, confidence, and emotional wellbeing

    Requirements
    • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly SEMH needs (school, sports coaching, youth work, or similar setting preferred)
    • Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills
    • Genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
    • Sports coaching or sporting background desirable but not essential
    • Relevant qualifications (Level 2 or 3 in Education, Teaching, Childcare, Sports Coaching, or SEND – desirable but not essential)
    • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)

    Benefits
    • Competitive rates of pay
    • Flexible working to suit your schedule
    • Opportunities for long-term and permanent roles
    • Ongoing CPD and training opportunities, including SEMH development
    • Dedicated consultant support

    Why Apply?
    • Immediate start opportunities available
    • Suitable for both experienced SEMH practitioners and those looking to transition from sports coaching or youth work into education
    • Opportunity to make a meaningful difference to pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs within a supportive primary school setting
