How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Machine Operator

    Hitchin

    Permanent Role

    Our Client in the Hitchin area are looking to recruit a Machine Operator / Machine Shop Support Engineer, this is a full time permanent role offering training on CNC Machines and Lathes.

    Machine shop support

    We are expanding our Manufacturing team and are recruiting people to support our Engineering Machining facility based in Hitchin.

    Our business produces small machined components made from engineering plastics, we serve a global customer base in the fields of Aerospace, Medical, Electronics, Valves and general Engineering sectors, our customers demand the highest levels of quality and to meet these exacting standards we are an AS9100 registered business.

    The role includes:

    1 Working within a section of CNC Turning machines providing support to maintain efficient output.

    2 Parts cleaning and sorting to remove swarf.

    3 Some "Stores" related activities that comprises of booking materials in and out of inventory.

    4 Maintaining good housekeeping standards.

    5 Conducting basic machine checks such as lubrication and ensuring machines are loaded with materials.

    6 Assisting with parts counting.

    7 Providing support with "Parts finishing" which is removing burrs from the machined parts using a variety of hand and automated de-burring equipment.

    No experience with our specific machines is required as full training will be provided, however candidates that have worked within a manufacturing environment, particularly machine shops, would be considered advantageous.

    You will be a member of the worlds largest Plastics machining business and will be working as part of a team, but we also encourage people to work on their own initiative.

    Hourly Rate is £12.71 Plus 20% shift premium ( £15.25an hour) Benefits include 24 days paid holiday plus Bank holidays, a Profit-sharing scheme, Sick pay scheme, Company pension, and the possibility of advancement.

    You will be working a shift Pattern, current hours are:

    Early shift: 06:00 to 14:00 Monday to Friday.

    Late shift: 13.30 to 22:00 Monday to Thursday, and 13.30 to 18:40 on Friday.

    You will rotate on each shift.

    We offer full support for training and understand that our specialist sector of the market requires us to provide familiarity with our processes and customer requirements, with this in mind we invite candidates from all sectors of manufacturing to be considered for this position.
