How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Technician – Fall Protection Testing
    Location: Kettering, Northamptonshire
    Salary: Up to £26,000 per annum
    Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full-time)

    The Opportunity
    An established and respected testing organisation is seeking a Technician to join its Safety Product Testing team on a full-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity to build a career within a specialist technical environment, working with a wide range of personal protective equipment (PPE).

    About the Team
    The Safety Product Testing department works with global clients to ensure PPE products meet recognised safety and performance standards.
    Items tested include:
    Fall protection equipment
    Protective gloves
    High-visibility clothing
    Helmets and eyewear
    Motorcycle garments
    Hearing protection
    Specialist workwear and sports protection
    The department operates multiple accredited laboratories, equipped with specialist machinery used to assess PPE against UK, European, and international standards. Results are provided to clients to support product development and certification (e.g. CE and UKCA marking).
    The wider team consists of approximately 25 technical specialists, including technicians and technologists.

    About the Role
    This role focuses primarily on fall protection equipment testing, including:
    Harnesses, Lanyards, Energy absorbers, Connectors, Rescue equipment
    Testing takes place throughout the year in both indoor and outdoor environments. Some activities may involve working at height (up to approximately 8 metres).
    Key Responsibilities
    Operate test equipment and machinery to produce accurate data
    Record and calculate results (both electronically and manually)
    Prepare samples for testing
    Interpret and follow relevant testing standards and procedures
    Maintain a clean, organised laboratory environment
    Support with sample storage and housekeeping
    Assist with customer visits and demonstrations when required
    Full training will be provided.

    About You
    Essential Requirements
    GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science (Grade C/4 or above)
    Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
    Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    Competent using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
    Ability to follow technical procedures accurately
    Good time management with a flexible approach to priorities
    Desirable (Not Essential)
    Experience working at height or using fall protection equipment
    Background in industrial roofing or similar environments
    Forklift truck experience
    Exposure to working with technical standards
