How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Title: Purchaser

    Department/Function: Operations

    Location: Head Office

    Contract Type: Permanent

    Working Hours: Mon-Thurs 8am to 5pm, Fri 8am to 1pm

    Salary Range: £33K to £36K

    About the Role

    We are recruiting for a Purchaser to join our Operations Team. The role of Purchaser is a key role in ensuring that purchased material is ordered and delivered on time so that we can manufacture our products to schedule. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and reviewing supplier relationships, conducting day to day planning activities through our ERP system and raising and processing purchase orders. The successful candidate will be trained by our current purchaser who is being promoted and will line manage the purchaser role.

    Key Responsibilities

    Maintain and review key supplier relationships (including on time delivery and pricing reviews).

    Conducting planning activities in our ERP system to identify and raise purchase orders for material required.

    Ensure re-order levels are routinely reviewed to ensure we hold sufficient stock levels and new stock is delivered by its required date.

    Process purchase requests from colleagues, finding suitable product solutions and raising purchase orders.

    Liaise with our Stock Control Manager and goods in to ensure smooth internal delivery and timely booking in of deliveries.

    Success Outcomes

    * First 30 Days:

    Processing purchase requests and raising Pos.

    Communicating with key suppliers to obtain lead times, get quotes and place orders.

    Started to use MRP and planning dashboards to forecast material requirements and place orders.

    Understand blanket agreements.

    A good level of accuracy and will have adopted approximately 50% of day to day purchasing.

    * First 90 Days:

    All of the above plus:

    Fully use MRP and planning dashboards to forecast material requirements and place orders.

    Have created and placed blanket agreements.

    Setting up new suppliers on our ERP system.

    Creating new material or part purchasing codes in our ERP system.

    A high level of accuracy and will have adopted 100% of day to day purchasing.

    * 12 Months:

    All of the above plus:

    A good understanding of the business, it’s products, procedures and purchasing requirements.

    Have supported in projects to improve departmental efficiency and develop supplier relations.

    Skills

    Required

    Be able to use a digital ERP system (full training provided)

    Strong written and verbal communication

    Foundational understanding of MRP (Material requirements planning) and common purchasing terminology

    Understanding of calculating re-order levels and safety stock

    Desired

    Purchasing knowledge applicable to the manufacturing sector; including basic knowledge of metals and manufacturing terminology.

    Advanced understanding of MRP and common purchasing terminology.

    Experience

    Have at least two years’ experience of purchasing or have studied a post graduate qualification in purchasing and logistics is essential.

    Experience in manufacturing is desirable.
