How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Company

Our client is a globally recognised engineering and manufacturing business specialising in the design and production of high-pressure gas storage and containment systems. With operations across multiple international sites and a global workforce, they are at the forefront of clean energy and alternative fuel technology.

The business designs and manufactures advanced aluminium composite gas cylinders and hydrogen fuel systems used across clean energy, aerospace, medical, industrial gas, emergency services, and transportation markets. Their continued investment in hydrogen technology and sustainable engineering solutions makes this an exciting time to join the company.

    The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will join a growing team, working on the design and development of hydrogen fuel systems for heavy vehicle applications. This is a varied role combining hands-on mechanical design, engineering calculations, and project coordination, with involvement from concept through to installation and testing.

You’ll be working within a team of 40 engineers and specialists, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, and collaborating closely with internal test engineers, customers, and manufacturing teams.

    Your responsibilities will include:
    • Designing hydrogen fuel storage systems and supporting framework structures
    • Producing 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor
    • Designing brackets, pipework, fuel system components, and associated assemblies
    • Performing engineering calculations including load analysis and basic FEA
    • Managing projects through the full design lifecycle from concept to delivery
    • Liaising with customers to understand technical requirements and provide updates
    • Supporting testing and validation activities with internal engineering teams
    • Creating and maintaining engineering documentation and P&IDs

    What We’re Looking For

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience using a 3D CAD package (Inventor advantageous)
    • Experience designing fabricated, structural, or mechanical assemblies
    • HND or Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
    • Understanding of manufacturing processes involving steel or aluminium
    • Experience carrying out engineering calculations and load assessments
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with customers and internal teams
    • Comfortable working full-time on site within a collaborative engineering environment

    Desirable experience includes:
    • Framework or vehicle integration design
    • FEA and load testing
    • APQP experience
    • Autodesk Vault knowledge

    The Benefits

    • Salary up to £50,000 depending on experience
    • Quarterly bonus scheme worth approximately 3% annually
    • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
    • Option to buy additional holidays
    • Flexible start and finish times
    • Join a globally recognised business within the rapidly growing hydrogen sector
    • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge clean energy technology
    • Excellent long-term progression opportunities within engineering and project leadership

    Why Join?

This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a highly innovative engineering business working on next-generation hydrogen fuel technology.

You’ll be involved in technically challenging projects with real-world impact, designing complex systems used within the future of sustainable transportation. Whether you are an experienced engineer looking to pass on knowledge or an ambitious engineer looking to accelerate your career, this role offers the opportunity to develop within a growing and forward-thinking engineering team.

    How to Apply

If you’re a Mechanical Design Engineer looking for an opportunity within an innovative clean energy engineering business, we’d love to hear from you.
