How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About the company

    Our client is a fast-growing UK technology group providing managed IT services, cloud solutions, infrastructure support, cyber security, communications, and business technology services to a varied client base.

    The business has grown significantly over recent years and offers excellent long-term career development. MFK Recruitment has recruited 46 IT professionals across the group over the past six years, with 31 still employed within the company, which is a strong reflection of the career progression, stability, and opportunities available.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT Field Engineer who enjoys working with a broad range of technologies, visiting customer sites, supporting projects, and being part of a collaborative technical team.

    The role

    The IT Field Engineer will provide both on-site and remote technical support to clients across the UK. You will be responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting IT systems, hardware, software, networking equipment, and cloud-based services.

    The role will involve regular travel to customer sites, supporting reactive technical issues, planned project work, system rollouts, migrations, infrastructure upgrades, and new site setups. When not working in the field, you will support the service desk with escalated tickets and remote troubleshooting.

    This role would suit someone who is technically strong, customer-focused, organised, and comfortable working across both support and project environments.

    Key responsibilities

    * Provide on-site technical support to clients across the UK

    * Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot IT hardware, software, networks, and infrastructure

    * Support IT projects including migrations, deployments, upgrades, office moves, and new site setups

    * Work closely with senior engineers, project teams, and service desk colleagues

    * Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, server, cloud, and network issues

    * Provide 1st and 2nd line support when required

    * Assist with escalated service desk tickets when not attending customer sites

    * Support Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory, Windows Server, and endpoint environments

    * Troubleshoot networking technologies including TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, and wireless networks

    * Support firewall technologies such as Fortinet, Cisco, SonicWall, or WatchGuard

    * Support backup and recovery solutions, including Veeam and Azure Backup

    * Assist with virtualisation platforms including VMware, Hyper-V, AVD, and RDS

    * Maintain accurate documentation, ticket updates, and technical records

    * Manage workload effectively across travel, project work, and support responsibilities

    Skills and experience required

    * Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar IT support, field engineer, or infrastructure support role

    * Previous MSP experience or experience in a customer-focused technical support environment

    * Strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies including Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows, Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows Server

    * Good all-round infrastructure knowledge across networking, servers, endpoints, cloud, and security

    * Experience troubleshooting PCs, servers, printers, scanners, switches, firewalls, and networked devices

    * Good understanding of cyber security technologies such as firewalls, web filtering, endpoint protection, and recovery solutions

    * Experience with backup solutions such as Veeam

    * Experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V

    * Full clean UK driving licence

    * Willingness to travel to customer sites across the UK

    Desirable experience

    * Microsoft certifications in Azure, Microsoft 365, or related technologies

    * VMware VCP

    * Citrix experience

    * Veeam certifications or strong Veeam experience

    * Experience supporting Apple Mac environments

    * Experience working on cloud migrations, infrastructure upgrades, and larger IT projects

    Personal attributes

    The successful candidate will be a technology enthusiast who enjoys solving problems and working with people. You will be approachable, organised, and able to work both independently and as part of a wider technical team.

    You will be someone who takes pride in delivering excellent customer service, enjoys learning new technologies, and wants to build a long-term career within a growing technology business
