How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Fabric Technician (Maintenance / Carpentry / Building Fabric)

    About the Role

    CBRE Global Workplace Solutions is looking for a skilled Fabric Technician to join our team in Derby. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on maintenance professional with experience in building fabric maintenance, carpentry, painting and decorating, and general repairs. In this role, you will support the safe, efficient, and high-quality upkeep of a client site, completing both planned and reactive maintenance tasks while delivering excellent customer service.

    Key Responsibilities

    Complete repairs to doors, walls, ceilings, floors, fixtures, and fittings, including minor carpentry and fabric works.
    Undertake painting, decorating, patch repairs, and general building maintenance tasks to a high standard.
    Support minor plumbing works, basic lighting maintenance, filter changes, and other general site maintenance activities.
    Inspect site conditions, identify defects, and produce clear reports, risk assessments, and method statements where required.
    Use PDA or maintenance systems to accurately record work completed, updates, and follow-up actions.
    Liaise professionally with client representatives, contractors, and colleagues to ensure a high level of service delivery.
    Carry out all tasks safely and in line with health and safety procedures, including COSHH, working at height, and safe systems of work.Skills and Experience Required

    Strong practical skills in carpentry, building fabric repairs, painting and decorating, and general maintenance.
    Experience working with fire doors and an understanding of building compliance requirements.
    City & Guilds, NVQ, or equivalent qualification in carpentry or a related trade is preferred.
    Experience working in commercial, corporate, or high-profile environments is advantageous.
    Good IT skills, including the ability to use mobile devices or maintenance management systems.
    Strong communication and customer service skills with a professional approach.
    Ability to read and follow technical drawings, instructions, and safe working procedures.
    Good understanding of health and safety regulations, including COSHH, risk assessments, and working at height.
