How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    We are currentlylooking foran experiencedMechanical Maintenance Fitterto join our friendly team based atourBayston Hill Quarry site, close to Shrewsbury in Shropshire. This roleis shiftbasedincluding days and nights andis easily commutable from Telford, Bridgnorth, Oswestry, Welshpool,Wolverhamptonand the surrounding areas.

    Main Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, theMechanical Maintenance Fitterrole willrequire key skills including working at heights, confined pace, hot works operations and will alsobe responsible for:

    Responding to plant breakdowns – ensuring assets are returned to productionin a timely manner, and temporary fixes are followed up with a permanent solution
    Undertaking emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient way on all production equipment
    Owning small scale projects and delivering them in a pragmatic and proactive manner
    Taking acost consciousapproach to maintenance activities
    Coordinating with contractors and suppliers when they are on site
    Participating in root cause analysis so repeat failures can be eliminated
    Contributing to the continuous improvement of the engineering function through your own observations and experience
    Welding and Fabricating to a good standard
    Working with risk assessments and method statements
    Contributing to the preparation and development of safe working methods for repair procedures
    Maintaining and promoting Health & Safety rules and regulations, following all company processes and procedures.
    Challenging unsafe conditions and practices, reporting these through company procedures
    Utilisingthecomputerisedmaintenance management system and recording all work including fault descriptions, spares used and repairs carried out

    The Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate for the role ofMechanical Maintenance Fitterwill be self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work with minimal supervision. You should also demonstrate proven experience working within an Industrial, Factory or similar environment. Suitable candidates for the role of Mechanical Maintenance Fitter will:

    Have arecognisedapprenticeship (preferably a higher-level standard)
    ONC/HNC (desirable but not essential)
    Have a strong, practical mechanical systems background, heavy industry preferred - conveyors, drive systems – motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens
    Have experience in repairing but not limited to pulleys, bearings, shafts, gearboxes, pneumatics, hydraulics,conveyor rollers and side skirts
    Possess a fault-finding ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate action
    Possess the ability to remove and fit bearings
    Have experience in fabrication workshop and the hazard apposed along with lifting and lowering equipment and techniques
    Be capable of undertaking emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient manner on all production equipment
    IT literate - capable of using PCs, common applications and company systems
    Ability to assess SHE risks arising from work activities and control risks accordingly
    Knowledge of material handling equipment,site-specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices is preferredWhy Tarmac
