How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Company:

    Our client is an independent Mechanical, Electrical, Fire, Communications, Design & Build Engineering and Contracting business.

    Purpose of the role:

    Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates for the company's bids. You will assist in the evaluation of project risk factors and commercial opportunities arising from new and existing bids and maintaining communication with all stakeholders internally and externally. Additionally, you will compile bids both mechanically and electrically to an agreed strategy, taking account of the various elements that could influence the bids, e.g., logistics, time, constructability, site factors etc. You will be able to take a bid from ITT through to completion, ready for final checks by the Preconstruction Lead / Manager.

    Key Duties/Deliverables

    Health & Safety

    Demonstrate appropriate Health & Safety understanding, ensuring that within the estimate there is an appropriate cost allowance to deliver the job safely.

    Deliverables

    Work as part of the Preconstruction team by assisting with the production of accurate and timely estimates. Liaising with other estimating professionals within the company to identify, share and implement best practice to allow the production of cogent proposals for management approval.

    Review enquiry documentation to fully determine and understand the full extent of the client’s enquiry. Take responsibility for Document Checklist.

    Prepare and deliver a presentation of the bid scope / client deliverables at settlement meetings to allow senior management to understand the project.

    Prepare each tender in a consistently structured and accurate format in full compliance with the company policies, standards, and processes, with appropriate consideration of all foreseeable construction, technical and commercial risks.

    Review commercial / technical risks associated with enquiries to find the best solution. Vet enquiries allocated to comply with the preparation and dispatch of accurate supplier/subcontract enquiries to the timescales dictated. Analyse quotations and make recommendation that best suits the business. Take responsibility prior to settlement meetings to check accuracy of the information presented.

    Review the contract conditions and highlight these to the Preconstruction Manager for discussion and evaluation at the earliest possible time.

    A positive approach towards innovation and a key contributor to the trialling of new estimating software.

    Represent the company at meetings or tender interviews with a full knowledge of the project.

    Relationship Building

    Ability to work as part of a team on major tenders and with minimum supervision on all work.

    Identify and understand the programme requirements. Give input to planner to allow production of accurate tender programme.

    Reporting & Identifying opportunities

    Manage and report on progress throughout the tender.

    Identify potential risks / opportunities within the scope of enquiries received.

    Identify third party requirements, internal or external, to ensure all information is collated in respect of enquiries.

    Raise queries internally and externally and where necessary.

    Maintaining Confidentiality

    Maintain highest levels of commercial confidentiality in all aspects of employment.

    Time Management

    Implement effective time management of the complete bid process to ensure the timely presentation of tender documentation for sign off and approval by Directors.

    Ensure deadlines are met in a timely manner.

    Budgets/ Costings

    Source and provide costings for input into tender documentation to achieve cost effective competitive tender. Input accurate information into Amtech or other applications.

    Quantify the extent of the works involved. Produce accurate take off and measure for tenders to ensure the prime cost of the project is fully understood.

    Knowledge of Company Policies

    Work within the company Preconstruction Policies and Procedures and documented management system. Additionally, adhere to the company's Quality, HR, Procurement, HSEQ and Financial policies and procedures.

    Deputised Duties

    To act as a Deputy for any posts/duties for which you are competent and, ensure that a suitably competent person is appointed as your Deputy for any significant period of absence or unavailability.

    IT/Tools

    Work on standard IT business applications such as Microsoft 360 including intermediate to competent level of skill in Word, Excel PowerPoint etc. A high level of EPDS understanding and commitment to PJT compliance. Competent in Amtech estimation.

    CREDENTIALS

    Experience

    Proven estimating experience on Rail / Commercial / Industrial projects

    Detailed understanding of RMM and NRM measurement methods

    Ability to technically review quotations in detail

    Strong experience dealing with and managing the supply chain

    Experience in preparing budget cost estimates’

    Qualifications

    HNC / HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or similar field of study and / or trade experience as time-served Electrician, Electrical Technician or similar) or equivalent industry experience.
