How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Vertical Recruitment is working in partnership with a respected global engineering and consultancy firm to appoint a Quantity Surveyor and an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join their UK-based Project Services team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking consultancy known for delivering strategic commercial and technical support to blue-chip clients across the infrastructure and engineering sectors.

With over 110 offices globally, the company brings decades of expertise to sectors including transport, utilities, nuclear, and energy, with a strong reputation for combining commercial insight with technical excellence.

    The Role:

As part of a growing commercial advisory team, you’ll support clients and principal contractors across some of the UK’s most complex engineering and infrastructure programmes. This is a hybrid role, typically involving three days on-site or with clients, and two days working remotely.

You’ll provide full pre- and post-contract support across the project lifecycle, from procurement to final account.

    Key responsibilities include:

    *

Preparing cost plans, tender documentation, and feasibility reports

    *

Advising on contract strategy (NEC3/4) and administering commercial procedures

    *

Supporting claims, valuations, and financial compliance

    *

Liaising with stakeholders across multi-disciplinary project teams

    *

Delivering detailed reporting and commercial analysis

    About You:

    *

Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related field

    *

3+ years’ experience for Intermediate QS roles, 5+ years for QS

    *

Background in infrastructure, energy, nuclear, or engineering sectors

    *

Confident working with NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4)

    *

Strong communication skills and commercial awareness

    *

Experience using CEMAR or similar systems is desirable

    *

Progressing toward RICS chartership (or keen to pursue)

    What’s on Offer:

    *

    Competitive base salary, regularly reviewed

    *

Car allowance and enhanced pension contributions

    *

25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays

    *

    Private healthcare and life insurance

    *

    Family-friendly benefits and flexible working

    *

Full support toward chartership (RICS) with in-house APC programme

    *

Laptop, mobile phone, and all necessary tools provided

    *

    Long-term progression within a collaborative, director-led team

This is a great opportunity to join a consultancy with a strong industry reputation and a genuine commitment to the development and progression of its people.
