How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We’re supporting a well-established, rapidly growing multidisciplinary construction consultancy that is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to play a key role within the National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade - the largest transformation of the UK’s electricity network in decades.

The consultancy has built a strong reputation for delivering complex infrastructure, utilities, and built-environment projects across the UK. Known for its collaborative culture, hands-on leadership, and commitment to developing its people, the business continues to expand its national footprint through major frameworks and long-term client partnerships. This role forms part of that continued growth, offering a chance to join a high-performing, supportive commercial team working at the forefront of the UK’s energy transition.

The Great Grid Upgrade is part of National Grid’s £30bn investment programme across England and Wales, designed to connect renewable energy sources, strengthen future energy resilience, and modernise critical power infrastructure. As Senior QS, you will support the delivery of complex substation and electrical infrastructure upgrades central to this national strategy.

    Key Responsibilities

    *

Lead commercial management activities across major utility and substation upgrade projects.

    *

Administer NEC3/NEC4 contracts, including variations, early warnings, and compensation events.

    *

Work closely with client and contractor teams to ensure robust cost control, value delivery, and commercial performance.

    *

Prepare detailed cost plans, budgets, forecasts, and financial reports to support key project decisions.

    *

Oversee commercial risk management, change management, procurement processes, and reporting.

    *

Support pre-construction activities, feasibility assessments, and tender reviews.

    *

Provide strategic commercial advice to clients while contributing to best practice across the wider team.

    Candidate Profile

    *

Proven experience within infrastructure, utilities, power, or electrical engineering environments.

    *

Strong working knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts and commercial management procedures.

    *

Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or related discipline; chartership (RICS or equivalent) beneficial but not essential.

    *

Excellent financial, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.

    *

Ability to collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams and build strong client relationships.

    *

A proactive, detail-driven approach with the confidence to take ownership of commercial workstreams
