How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

A dynamic, specialist construction consultancy based in St Albans is seeking a confident and commercially aware Project Quantity Surveyor to join its growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Project Quantity Surveyor to become involved in technically challenging schemes across the Water and Civils Sectors. The Project Quantity Surveyor will work within a consultancy that prides itself on delivering practical, hands-on commercial advice with a highly personalised approach. This Project Quantity Surveyor role offers the chance to work closely with senior leadership, giving the Project Quantity Surveyor real input into project strategy and client relationships. The Project Quantity Surveyor will join a business known for its collaborative culture, long-standing partnerships, and strong regional presence. For a Project Quantity Surveyor looking to step into a role with variety, visibility, and progression, this opportunity delivers all three.

    The Project Quantity Surveyor's role

The Project Quantity Surveyor will manage projects through both pre- and post-contract stages, providing cost planning, procurement, and commercial management services. The Project Quantity Surveyor will prepare tender documentation, analyse contractor returns, and support contract negotiations across a variety of live schemes. As a Project Quantity Surveyor, you will work directly with clients, consultants, and contractors, ensuring projects remain commercially controlled and aligned with programme objectives. The Project Quantity Surveyor will also oversee valuations, variations, and final accounts while administering contracts, predominantly under NEC forms.

    The Project Quantity Surveyor

The ideal Project Quantity Surveyor will have 3-5 years' UK experience within a consultancy or contractor environment. A Project Quantity Surveyor should be comfortable managing multiple schemes and confident communicating with both clients and site teams. Strong knowledge of NEC contracts is important for this Project Quantity Surveyor role. A degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management is preferred, with MRICS or APC progression viewed positively. The Project Quantity Surveyor will be organised, proactive, and commercially focused.

    In Return?

    £45,000 - £55,000 salary (depending on experience)
St Albans-based role with projects across Water, Civils or Infrastructure.
Strong client-facing responsibility and project ownership
Clear progression within a growing consultancy
    Supportive and collaborative team environment
