How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

The business brings decades of specialist experience in Civil, Structural, and Geotechnical Engineering to a wide range of UK infrastructure projects. The company operates across key sectors including Bridges, Rail, Infrastructure, Buildings, and Geotechnical Services, delivering projects from initial concept through to completion. Established in 1981, the organisation has achieved steady growth through a highly skilled and committed team of over 100 professionals.

    The Position: Senior Geotechnical Engineer

We are expanding our geotechnical team in Cardiff and are seeking a practical and adaptable Senior or Principal Geotechnical Engineer to play a key role in our continued growth.

This is an opportunity to join a busy and supportive office delivering a broad range of projects across domestic and commercial developments, rail infrastructure, bridges, and temporary works, within both public and private sectors. You will take ownership of selected projects, work closely with engineers and technicians, and receive support from senior leadership, with real opportunities to develop your career while contributing to the organisation's ongoing success.

    Key Responsibilities

Deliver a range of geotechnical projects, including design for both temporary and permanent works, with a focus on reviewing and checking the work of others.
Produce designs for civil and structural schemes, while contributing to multidisciplinary project delivery.
Collaborate with engineers and technicians across the team on a variety of projects.
Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, option assessments, and related documentation.
Undertake site inspections and geotechnical investigations where required.
Act as a point of contact for clients and support the development of strong working relationships.
Work collaboratively with other teams and disciplines, mentor junior staff, and contribute to team and business growth.

    Preferred Profile

Degree qualified (BSc, BEng or MEng) in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline.
    Relevant experience in geotechnical engineering.
Experience with UK-based projects and familiarity with UK standards and practices.
Strong technical reporting skills with excellent written and verbal communication.
Independent right to live and work in the UK.
Experience with geotechnical inspections/surveys and familiarity with engineering software (e.g. GEO-5, FEM tools, CAD) is advantageous but not essential.
Chartered status (or working towards) with a recognised body (e.g. CEng or CGeol) is desirable but not essential.
Full UK driving licence beneficial but not essential.
