How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Ruby Tech Lead – Backend Delivery & Platform Scaling

Hybrid | 2 days per week onsite – London

We’re looking for a Ruby Tech Lead to take ownership of backend engineering across a high-impact SaaS platform operating in real-time environments. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can drive delivery, improve system reliability and scale backend capability as demand grows.

You’ll work closely with engineering, product and external stakeholders to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery while shaping the evolution of a complex Rails-based platform.

    The Role

You’ll own backend delivery across key product areas, balancing hands-on development with technical leadership responsibility. Acting as a point of escalation, you’ll guide architecture, improve system performance and help the wider team deliver with speed and confidence.

This role is hybrid, with 2 days per week onsite in London.

    What You’ll Do

    • Own backend architecture and technical direction within a Rails monolith
    • Drive delivery across features from scoping through to production
    • Act as a technical escalation point across the application stack
    • Improve performance, reliability and maintainability of core systems
    • Lead estimation, planning and execution of engineering work
    • Mentor engineers and support team development
    • Collaborate with product and stakeholders to align delivery with business goals

    Skills & Toolkit

    • Strong Ruby on Rails experience in production environments
    • Experience with RESTful API design and development
    • PostgreSQL, Redis and Sidekiq
    • AWS-based infrastructure
    • Docker and containerised environments
    • Strong debugging and problem-solving capability
    • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly

    Working Model

    • Hybrid role – 2 days per week onsite
    • Location: London
