How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Shaw Trust promotes team spirit, inclusiveness and is an organisation where everybody is somebody. I am proud to be part of this great organisation.

At Shaw Trust, we believe everyone has the right to live a decent and dignified life and an opportunity for rewarding work. We are a social purpose organisation challenging inequality and breaking down barriers to enable social mobility.

For us, being part of the solution is about creating the conditions for this to happen, advocating and delivering services that make a real difference. Working in partnership, not competition, we are part of an ecosystem of purpose-led organisations striving for a fairer, more equal society centred on opportunity for all.

    Purpose

To provide Careers Information, Advice and Guidance to young people in secondary schools, colleges, pupil referral units and community settings.

Maternity Cover Roles (Level 6 Careers Adviser Required)

We are seeking Level 6 qualified Careers Advisers with experience working in school settings on a term-time-only contract. Two posts are available as soon as possible, both providing maternity cover until 1 January 2027:

    Position 1:
15 or 30 hours per week, term time only, over 38 weeks per year
Based in a Wakefield secondary school for 2 days per week Position 2:
15 or 30 hours per week, term time only, over 39 weeks per year
Based in a Wakefield secondary school for 2 days per week Additional Permanent Hours Available

A small number of permanent hours (1 day per week) are also available as part of a combined package for the successful candidate(s). These hours relate to a home-based digital IAG role supporting NEET young people.

To reflect service needs and ensure continuity, this permanent post is not being recruited separately. It will only be offered in addition to one of the maternity cover roles and not as a standalone position.

Please specify in your supporting statement the working hours per week you are interested in, along with whether the additional digital IAG role is of interest.
