How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    General Foreman - Civil Engineering & Infrastructure
    Lead Major Infrastructure Projects with a Growing Contractor
    My client is looking to appoint an experienced General Foreman to support the successful delivery of major civil engineering and infrastructure schemes across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven General Foreman to join a well-established contractor delivering highways, drainage and structures projects within a supportive and progressive environment.
    As a General Foreman, you will play a key role in overseeing site operations, driving programme performance and ensuring the highest standards of health, safety and quality are maintained throughout project delivery.
    Salary is dependent on experience, with a salary around £55,000 plus package and additional benefits.

    What You Will Be Doing
    As General Foreman, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of site activities and supervision of gangs and operatives across civil engineering works.
    You will be doing the following:
    ·Delivering large civil engineering schemes including highways, drainage, structures and deep excavation works
    ·Scheduling, co-ordinating and allocating daily activities to gangs and site operatives
    ·Ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved method statements
    ·Leading by example in promoting company health, safety and environmental standards on site
    ·Carrying out site inductions, toolbox talks and RAMS briefings independently and confidently
    ·Reviewing risk assessments and ensuring workforce understanding of site controls and procedures
    ·Completing and reviewing permits including PUWER, LOLER and permits to dig
    ·Monitoring progress against programme and supporting monthly programme updates
    ·Tracking and documenting daily productivity and site records accurately
    ·Organising the hire and off-hire of plant and equipment as required
    ·Assisting with identifying efficiencies, innovations and improvements to working methods
    ·Maintaining accurate records of measurements for direct and subcontract works to support commercial reporting
    ·Supporting monthly CVR processes with the commercial team
    ·Co-ordinating deliveries, inspections and quality checks on site
    ·Liaising with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and stakeholders professionally and effectively
    ·Ensuring works are delivered on time, within budget and in line with project specifications
    ·Supporting the development and training of site personnel
    Skills and Experience Required
    To be considered for this General Foreman role, my client is looking for candidates with the following:
    ·Previous experience delivering large civil engineering projects including highways, drainage and structures
    ·Strong understanding of temporary works, road construction and deep excavation activities
    ·CSCS Gold Card as a minimum
    ·SMSTS qualification
    ·Good IT skills including Microsoft Office and other relevant software packages
    ·Ability to work well under pressure and maintain focus to achieve deadlines
    ·Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to build positive working relationships
    ·Ability to recognise defective works and ensure corrective action is taken promptly
    ·Understanding of commercial awareness, programme delivery and reporting requirements
    ·Full UK driving licence with minimal points preferred

    ·Confined Space training
    ·Street Works qualification
    ·First Aid at Work certification
