How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Working as part of a collaborative design environment, you will support the delivery of projects from early concept stages through to construction.
You will work closely with senior engineers, architects and other consultants to develop coordinated structural designs that meet both architectural aspirations and technical standards. The role offers strong exposure to building design, refurbishment projects and structural assessments of existing buildings, while providing structured support towards professional development and Chartership.

    The company’s current projects include:

Commercial and public sector building projects across multiple sectors
Refurbishment, structural alterations and building extensions
Structural strengthening and adaptation of existing buildings
Structural condition surveys and technical assessments
Collaborative multidisciplinary projects involving architecture, surveying and engineering teams

    Your responsibilities will include:

Delivering structural designs for building projects in reinforced concrete, steel, masonry and timber
Producing structural calculations, sketches and technical design information
Developing practical and economic structural solutions aligned with architectural concepts
Undertaking structural inspections and surveys of existing buildings
Producing clear technical reports and design documentation
Coordinating design information with architects and other members of the project team
Responding to site queries and providing technical support during construction
Contributing to project meetings and site visits where required
Supporting senior engineers with project delivery and design development
Assisting with fee proposals or technical input for new project opportunities

    Essential experience & key requirements:

Experience designing building structures in steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber
Understanding of UK building regulations and structural design standards
Experience working on both new build and refurbishment projects
Ability to produce structural calculations and communicate design intent through sketches or mark-ups
Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage workload and work to project deadlines

    Required skills:

Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering
Approximately 2–6 years’ experience within a structural engineering consultancy
Working towards Chartership with IStructE or ICE
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proactive, collaborative and organised approach to project work
Familiarity with structural design software and BIM tools such as Revit is beneficial

    Benefits:

    Company pension scheme
Health cash plan / wellbeing support
    Hybrid and flexible working
    Professional membership support
    Ongoing training and CPD
    Structured mentoring towards Chartership
This role offers the opportunity to work on technically varied building projects within a supportive and collaborative consultancy environment while developing your career as a well-rounded Structural Engineer
