How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Our client, a respected steel fabrication specialist based in Widnes, is looking to appoint a skilled and proactive Project Engineer to support their growing workload. This is a key technical role, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced fabrication environment and enjoys taking full ownership of projects from initial enquiry through to production.

    The Role

    Working closely with both office and workshop teams, you will be responsible for preparing, programming, and coordinating a wide range of fabrication projects. This position blends CAD/CAM programming, project coordination, and client interaction, ensuring jobs are accurately prepared and delivered smoothly into production.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Produce and develop technical drawings using AutoCAD (or similar)

    * Generate and optimise CNC plasma programs using CAM/nesting software (Fusion 360)

    * Interpret customer requirements and convert drawings into production‑ready data

    * Manage projects from enquiry through to completion

    * Prepare estimates, quotations, and material requirements

    * Oversee workflow, job progress, and documentation via the company CRM

    * Liaise with workshop teams to support production and resolve technical issues

    * Source and order materials to meet project timelines

    * Drive continuous improvement in programming efficiency and material usage

    About You

    * Proven CAD/CAM programming experience within fabrication or manufacturing

    * Strong understanding of CNC machining, plasma cutting, and G‑code

    * Confident interpreting complex engineering drawings

    * Solid mechanical and fabrication knowledge

    * Experience managing projects or workflow independently

    * Commercial awareness (estimating, materials, job costing) is highly desirable

    * Highly organised, proactive, and comfortable working under pressure

    * Able to work between office and workshop environments

    * Full UK driving licence

    * Based within commuting distance of Widnes

    What’s on Offer

    * £40,000–£50,000 depending on experience

    * Immediate start available

    * Stable, long‑term position within a growing business

    * Varied and technically interesting projects

    * Supportive, hands‑on team environment with real responsibility
