How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Advance TRS are delighted to be supporting a leading engineering consultancy as a preferred recruitment partner for the appointment of a Project Technical Lead within their growing Water Utilities team.

Our client is a well-established consultancy delivering major infrastructure and environmental projects across the UK and internationally, with a strong reputation within the water sector for technical excellence, innovation, and long-term framework partnerships.

    About the Team

The Water Utilities division delivers a wide range of clean water and wastewater treatment projects across the UK and Ireland, supporting key investment programmes aimed at improving water quality, protecting the environment, and ensuring resilient infrastructure for future generations.

Their multi-disciplinary teams provide support across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and outline design through to detailed design and project delivery. This provides an excellent opportunity for engineers looking to further develop their expertise within clean water or wastewater treatment and work on technically challenging, high-profile programmes.

    Overview of the Role

Following a recent major framework appointment, our client is looking to appoint a Project Technical Lead to support the delivery of a multi-disciplinary clean water programme of works. This opportunity would suit a Chartered Civil Engineer currently operating at Senior or Principal Engineer level who is looking to take the next step towards project leadership, client engagement, and project coordination responsibilities.

A strong background within clean water treatment or wastewater treatment projects is essential for this role, and candidates should be comfortable working within regulated UK water sector environments. The successful candidate will work closely with technical discipline leads and project teams to support the successful delivery of projects to programme, budget, and technical quality standards.

The role will involve coordination of design activities, reviewing technical outputs, and developing collaborative working relationships with both internal stakeholders and client teams. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to broaden their experience beyond technical delivery and gain further exposure to framework management, project leadership, and client-facing responsibilities within the UK water sector.

The role is expected to evolve alongside the framework requirements and the successful candidate's own development goals. You will also have the opportunity to contribute towards innovative and sustainable engineering solutions while mentoring and supporting junior team members.

We are particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have hands-on experience delivering clean water treatment or wastewater treatment schemes, whether from a civil, process, or multi-disciplinary engineering background. Opportunities are available across several UK office locations, with preferred locations including Reading, Bristol, and Brighton. However, candidates based elsewhere will also be considered, as our client operates from a number of water sector offices across the UK.

    Candidate Specification

    Essential

Chartered Status (CEng) with a recognised Professional Institution
Strong experience working on clean water treatment and/or wastewater treatment projects within the UK water sector
Understanding of conventional and innovative water and wastewater treatment technologies
Experience supporting the development and delivery of feasibility studies and outline design solutions
Ability to review technical deliverables, calculations, and reports
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working within multi-disciplinary teams
Interest in developing client-facing and project coordination experience
Ability to contribute to bids, fee proposals, or offers of service

    Desirable

Experience supporting or mentoring junior engineers
Understanding of water sector sustainability drivers and treatment challenges
Appreciation of investment drivers within the UK water industry
Strong technical report writing skills with clear and concise English
Desire to progress into broader project leadership or management responsibilities over time We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity in our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status
