How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Principal / Associate Civil Engineer - Nottingham
    Hybrid Working

A growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy are looking to appoint a Principal / Associate Civil Engineer to lead and develop their expanding Civils team.

The business has developed a strong reputation across infrastructure, development, and built environment projects, delivering highways, drainage, flood risk, and civil engineering solutions across residential, commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, and mixed-use sectors. With a collaborative and technically focused culture, the company operates with a medium-sized consultancy feel, offering staff strong visibility across projects, direct access to senior leadership, and genuine influence over how the business continues to grow.

Their civils team works closely alongside wider multidisciplinary design teams delivering projects ranging from smaller private developments through to larger infrastructure and regeneration schemes involving highways design, SuDS, drainage strategies, FRA work, and development infrastructure packages. Due to continued project wins and a growing workload, they are now looking to strengthen leadership within the civils function.

    The role
You’ll play a key role in leading the civils function across both technical delivery and team development, managing projects from concept through to completion while supporting the continued growth of the business.

    Typical responsibilities will include:
    • Leading highways, drainage, and flood risk projects
    • Highways alignment, junction, and access road design
    • Production and review of Flood Risk Assessments (FRA)
    • SuDS and foul drainage design
    • Technical leadership and project coordination
    • Managing and mentoring engineers and CAD technicians
    • Liaison with clients, local authorities, statutory bodies, and stakeholders
    • Managing project budgets, programmes, and commercial delivery
    • Supporting bids, fee proposals, and business development activity

    Projects are likely to include:
    • Residential developments
    • Commercial and mixed-use schemes
    • Infrastructure and highways projects
    • Drainage and flood mitigation schemes
    • Development infrastructure packages

    Requirements
    • Strong UK consultancy experience within civil infrastructure engineering
    • Significant highways, drainage, and FRA experience
    • Experience delivering S38, S278, and S104-related schemes
    • Strong understanding of DMRB, SuDS Manual, and UK infrastructure standards
    • Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage
    • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring staff
    • Strong client-facing and project management capability
    • Chartered Engineer status preferred or working toward chartership
    • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline

    Why join?
    • Leadership opportunity within a growing civils team
    • Genuine influence over team and business direction
    • Open and collaborative working culture
    • Strong progression potential at senior level
    • Varied and technically interesting project workload
    • Close-knit consultancy environment with direct access to decision makers
    • Hybrid/flexible working environment
    • Competitive salary and bonus structure
    • Share options and enhanced benefits package
    • Strong support for CPD and professional development
    • Professional memberships paid
