How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Software Development Manager

    Salary: £60,000 – £65,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits
Location: Near Woking, Surrey (commutable from Guildford, Farnborough, Camberley, Bracknell, Reading, Basingstoke, Aldershot, Leatherhead and surrounding areas)
Hours: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week with flexible start/finish times

Syntech Recruitment are proud to be supporting a globally recognised engineering and technology manufacturer in the search for a Software Development Manager to join their expanding Design & Development function.

This is a genuinely exciting opportunity for someone with a strong software background who has naturally progressed into technical leadership, project delivery, backlog management, or product-focused development environments.

You’ll be joining a highly innovative business developing next-generation products across software, firmware, electronics and digital systems. The role will see you working closely with software engineers, project managers, chief engineers and external suppliers to help drive technical delivery across multiple live development projects.

Importantly, this is not a traditional people-management role focused on HR responsibilities or corporate management processes. Instead, this role centres around technical coordination, software delivery, requirements management, project triage and supporting a highly capable engineering team.

    What’s In It For You?

    £60,000 – £65,000 salary

    Additional production-related bonus

    Flexible working hours

    Private healthcare options

    Excellent pension scheme

    Free on-site gym

Free weekly yoga and boxercise sessions

Excellent funded training and development opportunities

    Modern, high-tech engineering environment

    Free parking with EV charging

Long-term progression opportunities within an expanding technology business

    The Role

As Software Development Manager, you will support the coordination and delivery of software, firmware and electronics development projects across a busy and growing engineering environment.

You’ll work alongside internal software engineers and external development partners, helping to triage requests, manage technical priorities, assess feasibility and ensure projects are delivered effectively.

The environment is fast-paced and highly varied, with a mixture of:

    New product development

    Existing product improvements

    Software platform evolution

    Embedded and PC-based applications

    Hardware/software integration projects

You’ll also play a key role in helping translate business and customer requirements into clear technical deliverables for the engineering team.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Coordinate and oversee software and digital development activities across multiple projects

    * Work closely with software engineers to manage ticketing, backlog and development priorities

    * Help define and refine technical requirements and specifications

    * Support project triage, feasibility assessments and technical decision-making

    * Collaborate with project managers, chief engineers and sales teams

    * Manage relationships with external software/electronics development suppliers where required

    * Review technical deliverables and support software architecture discussions

    * Assist with code reviews and occasional hands-on technical support when needed

    * Support the development of future software and product roadmaps

    * Help drive best practice across software delivery and project coordination

    What We’re Looking For

    * Strong background in software development or software engineering

    * Previous experience leading projects, software delivery activities, backlogs or technical teams

    * Experience working with ticketing/project management systems such as GitHub, Jira or similar

    * Understanding of embedded systems, firmware, electronics or hardware/software integration

    * Experience working within product development or engineering-led environments

    * Ability to manage multiple priorities across several live projects

    * Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

    * Problem-solving mindset with good technical judgement

    * Experience with C/C++ environments would be highly beneficial

    * Exposure to PC-based applications, embedded systems, FPGAs or PCB/electronics environments would be advantageous

This role would particularly suit someone who still enjoys the technical side of software and systems development but is looking to move further into technical leadership, project coordination and product-focused delivery.
