How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

I am working with a specialist independent college in West Sussex that is looking to appoint a Head of Maths/ICT from September 2026.

This is a permanent, full-time, term-time only role, working 34 weeks per year. The college supports boys aged 8–18 with additional learning needs and offers a small-class teaching environment, with class sizes typically around 10 pupils.

The successful candidate will lead both Maths and ICT across the college, with a strong focus on KS3 and KS4 Maths, including GCSE. The ICT element is at an appropriate entry/vocational level, so the school is not necessarily looking for a Computer Science specialist, but someone confident enough to oversee and further develop the subject area.

The role would suit an experienced Maths teacher, Maths Lead, Second in Department, Assistant Head of Maths or current Head of Maths who is looking for a smaller, more supportive environment with reduced class sizes and a lighter marking load compared with a mainstream secondary setting.

    Key responsibilities include:

    * Leading the Maths and ICT department

    * Teaching Maths across KS3 and KS4, including GCSE

    * Supporting and developing curriculum planning across Maths and ICT

    * Monitoring pupil progress and using data to inform intervention

    * Supporting staff within the department

    * Developing schemes of work and teaching resources

    * Differentiating lessons for pupils with a range of learning needs

    * Liaising with parents, colleagues and senior leaders

    * Promoting high standards of teaching, learning and behaviour

    The ideal candidate will have:

    * QTS or equivalent teaching qualification

    * Strong Maths teaching experience across KS3 and KS4

    * Experience delivering GCSE Maths

    * Previous leadership, coordination or department responsibility

    * Confidence using ICT within teaching or supporting basic/vocational ICT delivery

    * Strong differentiation and behaviour management skills

    * A calm, patient and supportive approach

    * The ability to work with pupils who may have barriers to learning

Own transport is required, as there is no public transport available to the college.

Benefits include pension options, term-time meals and refreshments, on-site parking, group life assurance, income protection, counselling service, cycle to work scheme, personal accident insurance, discretionary annual bonus and fee remission
