How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We are seeking an experienced Control Room Operator (CRO) to support commissioning activities on a major Energy‑from‑Waste (EfW) project. This role combines control room operations with hands‑on commissioning support and is ideally suited to operators with experience in plant start‑up, testing, and optimization environments.

The successful candidate will play a key role in bringing plant systems online safely and efficiently, working closely with commissioning, engineering, and operations teams throughout the commissioning phase.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Operate and control boilers, turbines, generators, and associated balance‑of‑plant systems via DCS and local control panels
    • Support commissioning and plant start‑up activities, ensuring systems are commissioned safely and in accordance with procedures
    • Monitor plant performance, alarms, and process parameters, taking corrective actions where required
    • Assist with hands‑on mechanical commissioning activities such as pump works, filter changes, greasing, and system checks
    • Identify, report, and escalate operational issues, deviations, and risks to the Commissioning Manager and wider project team
    • Work collaboratively within shift teams to support safe and efficient commissioning operations

This role description outlines the main responsibilities but is not exhaustive. Duties may evolve in line with project and business requirements.

    Experience & Qualifications

    • Proven experience as a Control Room Operator within Energy‑from‑Waste, biomass, or thermal power generation environments
    • Strong understanding of boiler operations, steam systems, and power generation processes
    • Experience supporting commissioning, start‑up, or outage activities is highly desirable
    • Valid safety certification (CCNSG, CSCS, SCC, or equivalent)
    • Good working knowledge of HSEQ standards and safe plant operation

    Skills & Competencies

    • Confident operating plant using DCS systems in live or commissioning environments
    • Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills, with calm decision‑making under pressure
    • Hands‑on and adaptable, with willingness to support field‑based activities when required
    • Effective communicator within shift teams and with multi‑disciplinary stakeholders
    • Safety‑focused mindset with proactive risk awareness

    Why Consider This Role?

    • Opportunity to work on a significant UK EfW commissioning project
    • Structured shift rotation supporting work‑life balance
    • Ideal role for CROs looking to build or extend commissioning and start‑up experience
    • Exposure to experienced commissioning, engineering, and operational teams
    • Potential for future project opportunities following successful delivery
