How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Salary: £42,511 rising to £44,419 per year

    As our new Deputy Head – English, Maths & ESOL, you will play a key leadership role in driving excellence across these essential curriculum areas, supporting students from a wide range of backgrounds to achieve their goals, build confidence, and progress into further study or employment.     In this pivotal role, you will support the Head of Faculty in leading and developing English, Maths and ESOL provision across the campus. You will champion high standards in teaching, learning and assessment, support curriculum innovation, and help create an inclusive and aspirational culture where both staff and students thrive. Working collaboratively with curriculum teams, support services, and external stakeholders, you will ensure our provision remains responsive, engaging, and aligned to student and employer needs.

    To support your leadership responsibilities, this role includes up to 50% remission from teaching duties, providing dedicated time to focus on curriculum development, staff support, quality improvement, and strategic priorities across the faculty.

    What You’ll Do

    • Support the strategic leadership and operational management of English, Maths and ESOL provision across the College.
    • Drive high-quality teaching, learning and assessment that improves student achievement and progression outcomes.
    • Lead on curriculum planning, innovation, and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
    • Support and develop teaching staff through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
    • Monitor learner progress and implement interventions that improve attendance, retention, and achievement.
    • Champion inclusive practice and support learners with diverse educational backgrounds and needs.
    • Build strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to enhance curriculum delivery and learner experience.
    • Contribute to self-assessment, inspection readiness, and continuous improvement planning.

    What You’ll Bring

    • A recognised teaching qualification (Level 4 or above).
    • Significant teaching experience within English, Maths, ESOL, or related curriculum areas.
    • Experience of curriculum leadership or departmental coordination within Further Education or a similar setting.
    • A strong understanding of quality assurance processes and curriculum improvement strategies.
    • Knowledge of GCSE and Functional Skills delivery and current educational priorities within FE.
    • A passion for inclusive education and improving outcomes for all learners.
    • Excellent communication, organisational, and people management skills.
    • The ability to motivate and inspire both staff and students in a fast-paced educational environment.
