How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer (Pipework / HVAC / Water)
    Location: Birmingham or Hereford (Hybrid / Agile Working)
    Salary: £45,000 + Company Car + Benefits

    Why this role? This is a genuinely flexible engineering role offering an agile working model. You will join a specialist business delivering critical pipework systems across fire protection and industrial water projects, with involvement across the full lifecycle from concept through to installation.

    You will design practical, compliant pipework systems that are not only technically sound but also efficient to manufacture and install.
    Working closely with commercial and delivery teams, you will play a key role in ensuring designs translate effectively into real-world applications.

    What you’ll be doing
    Designing pipework systems, layouts, and technical drawings
    Supporting projects from tender through to detailed design (DfM)
    Interpreting P&IDs, site data, and client requirements
    Collaborating with engineers, PMs, and site teams
    Contributing to cost-effective design solutions
    Ensuring designs are compliant and buildableWhat we’re looking for
    Experience in pipework design
    Background in industries such as:
    fire protection, water/wastewater, HVAC, or industrial process
    CAD experience (AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar)
    Understanding of design for manufacture and installation
    Strong practical and problem-solving mindsetDesirable
    Knowledge of LPCB, BS EN 12845, NFPA, or ACOP L8
    Experience with sprinkler or industrial pipework systems
    Exposure to full project lifecycleAbout Us
