How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

TeacherActive, one of the UK’s largest and most established education recruitment agencies, is proud to be working in close partnership with a range of welcoming and inclusive 1–3 form entry primary schools across Newham and the wider East London area.

We are currently seeking dedicated, patient and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistants who are passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs and helping them thrive both academically and personally.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you may be supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis, working with small groups, or assisting the class teacher with inclusive classroom practice. The role is ideal for someone who is calm, flexible and committed to making a meaningful difference to children with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, speech and language needs, learning difficulties, SEMH and communication barriers.

We recognise that every support staff member’s career journey is unique. Whether you are looking for flexible day-to-day supply, a long-term role for consistency, or an opportunity to secure a permanent position, our experienced consultants will work closely with you to match your skills, experience and career aspirations with the right school environment.

The Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant Will Be Able To:

Support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs and learning difficulties
Provide effective 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual learning plans and pupil targets
Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, phase leaders and external professionals to deliver personalised support strategies
Adapt learning activities, resources and communication approaches to suit different abilities and learning styles
Promote positive behaviour using calm, consistent and restorative strategies
Support pupils’ emotional regulation, confidence, independence and social development
Assist with classroom routines, transitions, interventions and targeted learning activities
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff and parents
Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment
Uphold safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times

The Successful SEND Teaching Assistant Will Have:

Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, ideally within a primary school setting
A patient, nurturing and resilient approach
    Strong communication and teamwork skills
Confidence supporting pupils with a range of learning, behavioural and emotional needs
    A flexible and proactive attitude
A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply

Working Through TeacherActive, You Can Expect:

Opportunities across supportive 1–3 form entry primary schools in Newham and East London
Flexible day-to-day, long-term and permanent opportunities
A dedicated team of consultants available 24/7 to support you through a smooth onboarding process
Access to CPD courses and certificates through our My-Progression channel
    Market-leading rates of pay
Ongoing support, guidance and career advice from experienced education consultants
Our staff are paid on a PAYE basis, so you can rest assured that you’re paying the right level of TAX and National Insurance and there’s no messing around with admin charges coming out of your hard-earned cash.
