How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services

    Location: Newmarket
    Salary: Competitive DOE
    Job Type: Full-Time / Permanent

    About the Role

    We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing Building Services consultancy based in Newmarket.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer with strong technical knowledge and a proven background in mechanical building services design. The role would suit someone located within a commutable distance of Newmarket who is happy to work from the office at least 3 days per week.

    You will be involved in the design and delivery of a variety of commercial, residential, education, and mixed-use projects from concept through to completion.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Produce mechanical building services designs including HVAC, heating, ventilation, and public health systems

    * Prepare detailed calculations, specifications, and technical reports

    * Coordinate designs with internal and external project teams

    * Attend client and design meetings

    * Support project delivery from feasibility through to construction stage

    * Ensure designs comply with current regulations and industry standards

    * Liaise with contractors, architects, and consultants throughout project delivery

    * Mentor and support junior engineers where required

    Requirements

    * Minimum 6–7 years’ experience within Mechanical Building Services Design

    * Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems design

    * Experience working within a consultancy or contractor design environment

    * Proficient with industry software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, or similar

    * Good understanding of UK Building Regulations and CIBSE standards

    * Strong communication and coordination skills

    * Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    * Full UK driving licence preferred
