How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Materials & Plant Buyer

    An established and highly respected Civil Engineering & Building Contractor with projects nationwide is looking to appoint an experienced Materials & Plant Buyer to join its growing head office team based in East Yorkshire.

    With decades of successful project delivery and a strong reputation for quality, this contractor continues to secure repeat business across the UK and offers a stable, long-term opportunity within a fast-paced and supportive environment.

    The Role

    The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting nationwide delivery teams by providing an efficient materials and plant procurement service across multiple live construction projects.

    You will work closely with operational teams, suppliers, and external partners to ensure materials are sourced competitively, delivered on time, and aligned with project requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    - Procurement of construction materials, plant, and associated services across multiple projects.

    - Producing price comparison spreadsheets to ensure best value procurement.

    - Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships.

    - Monitoring market trends, product developments, and supply chain opportunities.

    - Supporting project teams with commercial and product awareness.

    - Managing delivery schedules and resolving any discrepancies efficiently.

    - Ensuring procurement processes remain professional, compliant, and auditable.

    - Obtaining relevant health & safety and material documentation for project handover files.

    - Identifying and onboarding new suppliers.

    Requirements

    - Previous experience within a Construction or Civil Engineering buying/procurement role.

    - Strong knowledge of construction materials and civil engineering products.

    - High level of organisation with the ability to manage multiple live projects s
