How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Sub Agent - Civils (HS2 / Major Infrastructure)

    Northampton Region
    Freelance Contract (Inside IR35)
    £550-£580 per day
    Immediate Start

    The Role

    We are seeking an experienced Sub Agent to join a major infrastructure project in the Northampton region, supporting delivery on a high-profile civil engineering scheme.
    Working as part of a Tier 1 contractor team, you will take responsibility for the planning, coordination, and delivery of key work packages, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, and to specification.

    Key Responsibilities

    Manage day-to-day site operations across allocated sections of work
    Oversee subcontractors delivering civils packages (earthworks, drainage, structures, or highways)
    Ensure compliance with health, safety & environmental standards
    Drive programme performance and short-term planning (lookaheads)
    Review and implement method statements and risk assessments (RAMS)
    Coordinate with engineering teams to resolve technical issues
    Monitor progress, quality, and productivity on site
    Support cost control, forecasting, and reporting to senior management
    Maintain accurate site records, including diaries and progress reports
    Liaise with stakeholders including client reps, designers, and supply chain

    Requirements

    Proven experience as a Sub Agent or Senior Engineer on major civils / infrastructure projects
    Strong background in earthworks, drainage, highways or structural works
    Experience managing subcontractors and site teams
    Excellent knowledge of CDM regulations and health & safety practices
    Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
    Strong communication and leadership skills
    SMSTS, CSCS (Black or Gold), and First Aid (preferred)

    Desirable

    Experience working on HS2 or other major UK infrastructure projects
    Familiarity with Tier 1 contractor processes and reporting systems
    Knowledge of NEC contracts
