How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Head of SHEQ


    I’m currently representing a well-established and highly respected main contractor with a strong reputation across London and the South East. Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are now seeking an experienced Head of SHEQ to lead and drive their Safety, Health, Environment & Quality function across the business.


    This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone looking to make a genuine impact within a contractor known for delivering complex residential, regeneration, and new build projects.


    The Role


    Reporting directly into senior leadership, the successful candidate will take ownership of the company’s SHEQ strategy, ensuring best practice, compliance, and continuous improvement are embedded throughout the organisation.


    You will play a key role in shaping culture, influencing operational teams, and maintaining the highest standards across both office and site environments.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and develop the company-wide SHEQ strategy
    • Ensure compliance with current UK legislation and industry standards
    • Oversee and maintain ISO management systems, including ISO 45001
    • Provide guidance on building safety and temporary works procedures
    • Lead audits, inspections, investigations, and corrective actions
    • Support operational and pre-construction teams on risk management and compliance
    • Drive behavioural safety initiatives and continuous improvement
    • Manage and mentor the SHEQ team across multiple projects
    • Produce board-level reports and performance updates
    • Liaise with external bodies, regulators, and stakeholders where required
    • Requirements
    • Proven experience in a senior SHEQ / Health & Safety leadership role within a main contractor environment
    • Strong knowledge of UK construction legislation and compliance frameworks
    • Experience managing ISO systems and driving audit performance
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
    • Ability to influence at all levels of the business
    • Chartered IOSH status (CMIOSH) preferred
    • Experience across residential, refurbishment, regeneration or new build projects would be advantageous
