How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Are you an experienced plumber looking for a change of pace without stepping away from the trade? Do you want to put your practical knowledge to good use in a college environment, supporting the next generation of plumbers and keeping a well-equipped workshop running at its best? If so, we would love to hear from you.
    As our Plumbing Workshop Technician, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance and organisation of the Plumbing workshops at our Southgate campus. You will prepare workshops for practical sessions, provide hands-on technical support to lecturers and learners, carry out demonstrations modelling correct techniques and safe working practices, and maintain the tools, equipment and training rigs that make high-quality practical delivery possible.
    You will be joining our Construction and Building Services team at an exciting moment, as we develop a new construction centre at Southgate. It is a practical, varied role in a collegial environment where your trade knowledge is genuinely valued and where you will make a visible contribution to learner success every day.

You will be working alongside plumbing lecturers and other workshop colleagues in a team that takes quality seriously and supports each other to deliver it.
    What You'll Be Doing
    * Workshop preparation: Prepare, set up and maintain the Plumbing workshops for practical teaching sessions, ensuring all tools, equipment, materials and consumables are ready, safe and fit for purpose.
    * Technical support and demonstrations: Provide hands-on technical support to lecturers during practical lessons and assessments, and deliver demonstrations to learners modelling correct techniques and safe working practices.
    * Equipment and maintenance: Maintain, service and repair tools, equipment and training rigs, arranging specialist servicing where required, and ensuring everything is kept to a high standard.
    * Health and safety: Maintain high standards of health and safety in the workshops at all times, carry out routine safety checks, support risk assessments and COSHH documentation, and promote safe working practices with staff and learners.
    * Stock and workshop management: Manage stock control, ordering and storage of materials and consumables within budget, keep workshops clean and organised to industry standards, and support continuous improvement of facilities.
    * Learner support: Support learners during practical activities, assist with inductions on workshop rules and safe equipment use, and work collaboratively with teaching staff to support learner progress.
    * Audits and inspections: Support audits, inspections and awarding body visits as required, maintaining accurate records throughout.
    What You'll Bring
    Essential
    * A Level 2 or Level 3 Plumbing qualification, or equivalent
    * English and Maths at Level 2 or above
    * Practical experience within the plumbing trade or a plumbing workshop environment
    Experience maintaining tools, equipment or workshop facilities
    * Sound knowledge of plumbing tools, materials and installation practices
    * Strong awareness of health and safety in workshop environments
    * Ability to organise and manage a practical workspace effectively
    * Effective communication skills and a calm, approachable manner with staff and learners
    * Basic IT skills including email, inventory systems and digital record keeping
    * Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding
    Even Better If You Have...
    * A Health and Safety qualification or relevant training
    * A First Aid qualification
    * Experience supporting a teaching or training environment
    * Experience of stock control and ordering
    * Experience working with young people or learners
