How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Civil Engineer (Chartered)
    Location: Birmingham Office
    Contract: 6 Months (ASAP Start)
    Engagement: Outside IR35
    Sector: Transmission

    MRR Infrastructure is recruiting for a Chartered Senior Civil Engineer to join a highly respected engineering organisation delivering major UK transmission infrastructure projects.

    This is a six-month contract opportunity, confirmed as outside IR35, based within the Birmingham office.

    The Opportunity

    You will operate in a senior technical capacity within the Civil and Structural team, leading design activities across high-voltage transmission projects from concept through to detailed design and construction support.

    This role is suited to an experienced Chartered Civil Engineer who is confident leading design packages, mentoring engineers, managing client interfaces and delivering complex infrastructure solutions within regulated environments.

    The Organisation

    Our client is a globally established, employee-owned engineering and construction organisation with a significant presence in the UK transmission sector.

    They are a principal contractor on major transmission frameworks and are recognised for delivering complex substation and infrastructure projects at 275kV and 400kV levels.

    The UK business has grown steadily over recent years, moving from framework establishment into full design and delivery capability. They are known for strong governance, high engineering standards and a structured project delivery model.

    The organisation maintains a professional, technically driven culture and places strong emphasis on quality, safety and long-term client relationships. Contractors working within the business benefit from working alongside experienced transmission specialists on nationally significant infrastructure projects.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Lead civil and structural design from conceptual stage through to detailed design completion

    * Prepare specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid evaluations and purchase recommendations

    * Review vendor drawings and coordinate technical interfaces with suppliers and multidisciplinary teams

    * Contribute to project planning including programme, scope, budget and staffing

    * Manage change control and support effective commercial performance

    * Produce technical reports, studies and detailed specifications

    * Develop and deliver complex, non-standard engineering solutions

    * Undertake QA reviews to ensure compliance with project, client and industry standards

    * Support construction phase activities including field inspections and resolution of installation issues

    * Prepare and manage project budgets and cost estimates

    * Lead development of cost proposals and qualification submissions

    * Mentor and guide junior engineers within the practice

    * Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 and company safety policies

    Experience and Qualifications

    * Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline

    * Chartered status (CEng) preferred

    * Minimum 7 years’ civil/structural design experience

    * Proven experience within high-voltage transmission infrastructure projects

    * Strong working knowledge of National Grid procedures, CDM 2015 and Temporary Works

    * Proficient in Microsoft Office and CAD/BIM software

    * Experience using structural analysis tools

    * Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder management capability

    * Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently

    * Location and Travel

    * Based in the Birmingham office

    * 40 hours per week

    * Travel nationally up to approximately 10 percent depending on project requirements

    Candidates must be comfortable arranging their own travel and accommodation where required

    This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to nationally significant transmission infrastructure within a technically strong and well-structured delivery organisation.
