How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About the Role:
As Business Manager, you will report directly to the Board and take responsibility for driving business development, financial resilience, and organisational growth. You will play a central role in developing and implementing strategies to increase income, secure funding, and expand services, while ensuring robust financial control and effective internal business processes. You will also oversee key operational functions including finance, administration, and site management, and support the development of high-performing teams to ensure the organisation continues to deliver impact for people with learning disabilities.
    Key Responsibilities:
    * Develop and implement business development strategies aligned with the charity's mission and goals.
    * Build financial and service resilience through effective planning and income generation.
    * Identify and secure funding through grants, contracts, fundraising, and social enterprise development.
    * Oversee financial management processes, budgets, and reporting in line with Board requirements.
    * Provide oversight of finance and administration functions, including support to relevant staff.
    * Develop and embed robust business processes and systems, including IT and project management solutions.
    * Manage site operations and ensure effective delivery of services.
    * Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, partners, and commissioners.
    * Promote the organisation's work through marketing, communications, and networking activities.
    * Lead on contract and tender opportunities with local authorities and other organisations.
    * Develop dashboard reporting and KPIs to monitor performance and impact.
    * Support service development and identify new opportunities to meet the needs of people with learning disabilities.
    * Ensure safeguarding, equality, and diversity principles are embedded across all operations.
    What We're Looking For:
    * Proven experience in business development, income generation, or senior operational management.
    * Strong track record of securing funding, contracts, or developing new revenue streams.
    * Experience in business process redesign and organisational improvement.
    * Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
    * Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop teams.
    * Sound financial management experience including budgeting and reporting.
    * Degree-level qualification or professional equivalent in Business, Finance, or a related discipline.
    * Knowledge or experience of the learning disability or social care sector is highly desirable.
    * A proactive, strategic thinker with strong problem-solving ability.
    * Full UK driving licence is essential.
Appointment will be subject to DBS clearance, right to work checks and satisfactory references.
    Why Join?
This is a unique opportunity to join a values-driven organisation at a key stage in its development. You will help shape strategy, influence services, and drive sustainable growth, making a meaningful difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities, while collaborating with a forward-thinking team that values innovation, impact, and continuous improvement.
    To Apply:
Submit your CV and a cover letter detailing your experience and what you would bring to this role.
