How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Head of Drama Department

    South Norwood | Full Time | Permanent
    Not suitable for ECTs

    We are seeking an ambitious, creative and inspiring Head of Drama to lead our thriving Drama Department and drive excellence in performing arts across the school. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate teacher with strong leadership skills to shape an engaging curriculum, deliver outstanding performances and inspire students of all abilities.

    The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with a proven track record of raising achievement at GCSE level and a passion for developing young people through performance and creativity.

    About the Role

    As Head of Drama, you will:

    Lead and develop the Drama Department to ensure high standards of teaching and learning
    Deliver engaging and challenging Drama lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
    Direct and produce high-quality school performances and productions
    Motivate and inspire students regardless of their starting points
    Monitor student progress and implement strategies to raise attainment
    Lead curriculum development in line with current educational thinking and the National Curriculum
    Support and develop colleagues within the department
    Promote inclusion, diversity and equal opportunities through the performing arts
    Contribute to the wider life of the school community

    The Successful Candidate Will Have:

    Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

    Educated to degree level or equivalent
    Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
    Excellent knowledge of performing arts and directing performances
    Strong understanding of current educational practice and the National Curriculum
    Successful experience teaching Drama at GCSE level with good or better outcomes
    Evidence of raising achievement and adding value for student groups
    Experience of leadership and managing change effectively
    Experience of working collaboratively to deliver successful outcomes
    A strong understanding of how children learn and how standards can be raised

    Essential Skills

    Excellent organisational and time management skills
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    Strong IT literacy
    Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, colleagues and external stakeholders
    Ability to establish a positive presence across the school
    Ability to prioritise, plan and organise both themselves and others
