How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Graduate Building Surveyor
    York / North Yorkshire
    £28,000 - £34,000 + Extensive Benefits Package

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Graduate Building Surveyor to join a high-profile property organisation with a diverse and prestigious portfolio across the York and North Yorkshire region.

This role offers exposure to a varied mix of commercial, leisure, retail, residential, and light industrial properties - including a number of heritage and listed buildings. It represents a rare opportunity for a graduate surveyor to gain hands-on experience within a highly respected property team while building a strong foundation towards APC progression and chartership.

Working alongside an experienced team of chartered surveyors and property professionals, you will play a key role in delivering projects across a significant property portfolio. The position will provide excellent project exposure, particularly within contract administration, refurbishment, adaptation, and heritage-led schemes aligned to APC competencies.

    The Role

As a Graduate Building Surveyor, you will support the delivery of a broad range of professional and project-based surveying instructions, including:
    • Assisting with refurbishment, adaptation, and improvement projects
    • Supporting contract administration and project delivery
    • Undertaking property inspections and surveys
    • Working across a varied portfolio of commercial and heritage assets
    • Collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, consultants, and contractors
    • Developing technical and professional competencies aligned with APC progression

    About You

    The ideal candidate will possess:
    • A degree in Building Surveying or a related discipline
    • Ideally 12 months' relevant industry experience (placement year experience considered)
    • A genuine interest in heritage and listed buildings projects through academic study, work experience, or voluntary involvement
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships
    • A proactive and motivated approach to professional development
    • Previous exposure to small-scale project delivery or contract administration would be advantageous

    Why Apply?

This is a standout graduate opportunity offering genuine long-term career development within a highly regarded property organisation.
    You will benefit from:
    • Structured APC support and mentoring from experienced chartered surveyors
    • Exposure to high-quality and career-enhancing projects
    • The opportunity to work on heritage and listed buildings schemes
    • A collaborative, people-focused, and supportive working environment
    • Excellent professional development prospects within a respected property team

    Rewards & Benefits

    •£28,000 - £34,000 salary package
    • Exceptional pension scheme
    • Extensive benefits package
    • On-site parking
    • Strong APC and professional development support
