How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Mechanical Engineer - Building Services

    Location: Plymouth / Exeter
    Employment Type: Permanent

    Overview

    A global multidisciplinary consultancy is expanding its Mechanical Building Services team across Exeter and Plymouth due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured UK and international projects.

    The role sits within a multidisciplinary team delivering mechanical engineering solutions across defence, infrastructure, healthcare, education, commercial and secure environments.

    This is a design-focused position supporting full lifecycle delivery from concept design through to construction.

    Key Responsibilities

    Support mechanical building services design across RIBA Stages 0–7
    Assist in the design of HVAC systems including heating, cooling, ventilation and associated plant
    Undertake engineering calculations including heat loss/gain, pipe sizing and airflow calculations
    Produce drawings, specifications, reports and technical documentation using Revit and AutoCAD
    Work within multi-disciplinary engineering teams
    Support coordination with electrical, structural and architectural disciplines
    Attend design meetings and assist in technical problem solving
    Support sustainable and low-carbon design strategies
    Assist with site inspections and construction phase support
    Requirements

    Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
    2–3 years’ experience in building services design (consultancy preferred)
    Understanding of HVAC systems and UK construction standards
    Revit / BIM experience advantageous
    Strong communication and willingness to develop
    Security Clearance eligibility beneficial due to defence workload
